Many techniques have
been developed to assist contractors in performing the functions of
scheduling activities. Network techniques that belong to the critical
path method (CPM) type of analysis are used to determine a project
duration, early and late start dates, float time, critical path, logical
constraints, and a number of other activity characteristics. There are a
number of advantages to using CPM. However, CPM has fundamental
limitations when dealing with repetitive construction, modeling resource
utilization, and probabilistic estimates, results in project planner
cannot determine a better of schedule. Simulation provides an
advanced scheduling methodology that incorporates the stochastic nature
of construction tasks, repetitive construction, resource allocation, and
production scheduling, so that computer simulation technique is widely
used in construction operation. This research presents a hybrid approach
that combines simulation techniques and CPM to overcome limitations of
CPM. This research develops a graphic user interface (GUI) of scheduling
program and combines with CYCLONE-based computer simulation system COST
(Construction Operation Simulation Tool), named as Scheduling-COST, to
provide a tool that scheduling possessed of the capability of
simulation, to determine a better of schedule. |
