It has been thirty
years since the beginning of the conservation concept movement to the
first project of Taiwan Historic restoration. However, many
restorative experiences and techniques have been accumulated but not
recorded. While the timber frame restoration, which actually relies on
the craftsmen’s skill and experiences, plays the most important and
complicated part in the historic wooden architecture, it can only be
worked by memory without any visible records. The restoration items
of the historic wooden architecture are various, thus the repaired
methods should be changed according to the damaged and environmental
conditions. This research, it is limited to discuss the historic wooden
architecture in Taiwan. The common wooden materials are selected as the
research objects. It is expected to set up a working procedure of column
replacement in historic restoration. The working procedure of column
replacement is established based on several information and factors,
such as the combination of eight models in chapter three with the
development of horizontal materials jointing with the column, the
conditions of replacement of roof and floor, the project records in the
past, and the analysis of environmental influence. Basically, one
working procedure can only work under single situation. In other
words, there could be different working procedures with different
conditions. Therefore, the conditions in the research should be
simplified and limited to discuss the replacement of a single column
while it might have some loses. To sum up, eight models and
twenty-eight working procedures are established in the research of the
timber frame restoration in the historic wooden architecture by
collecting the past experiences and information. Though the working
procedure is extremely influenced by the environmental conditions and
strategy, the research still provides some references in the restoration
of historic wooden architecture though it could not be totally
adopted. |
