The Interactive Behavior Between the Cold-Formed Steel Wall Stud and Sheathing
摘要(中):
摘要(英):
This research is concentrated on the interactive behavior between the cold-formed steel wall stud and sheathing. Three kind of test specimens used in this study includes: (1) both stud and calcium silicate board are under compression (FF); (2) the stud sheathed with calcium silicate board is under compression (FC); and (3) the calcium silicate board supported by stud is under compression (FS). Three different thicknesses of calcium silicate board and three different spacing of the connecting screw were adopted in the test. Totally, 36 specimens were tested in this research. In addition, the steel and sheathing material tests were conducted to obtain the relative parameters. The comparison was made between the tested data and predicted values computed according to the AISI Specification [8] to study the effective length factor of K.
It was observed from the tests that the local buckling mainly dominated the failure mode of the FF and FC specimens. For the specimens with the same thickness of sheathing, the ultimate strength increased with decreasing screw spacing. It was also found that the strength of FF specimen is close to the sumation of the strengths of FC and FS specimens with the same board thickness and screw spacing as FF specimen. As compared the test results with the research findings from Li [2]and Luo [3], It can be concluded that the failure mode of specimen is affected by both the sheathing thickness and the stud thickness. Different from this study, the failure mode of Li’s test specimens is torsional-flexural buckling for most cases. The predicted values computed based on the AISI Specification seem to be conservative as compared to the tested values of FF specimens. Therefore, it is suggested that the effective length factor, K (Kx, Ky, and Kt), can be taken as 0.5 to determine the wall stud assembly strength.
