Abstract Retrofit
and repair of RC structures has been an important issue in civil
engineering nowadays. The implementation of structural strengthening
with CFRP sheets is a new trend in the world. For civil engineers,
carbon fiber reinforcement polymers (CFRP) is a kind of new material.
Due to their high strength-to-weigh and stiffness-to-weigh ratio;
fatigue and electricity resistance; high pull strength in one direction;
ease of handling; and ease of fabrication, there is a lot of potential
in the application of civil engineering. Extensive research has been
carried out on using CFRP composites for repair and strengthening;
however, information about their durability is still lacking. The
long-term durability of CFRP composites is a crucial factor in
successful application as repair materials or as reinforcement for
concrete. In this study, CFRP is used to investigate the
durability on strengthening concrete members. In order to assure the
effect of strengthening material, CFRP wrapped specimens which would
subject to different environment including outdoor, seawater,
ultraviolet (UV), ultraviolet and seawater accelerating test exposures
were tested on compressive strength, flexural strength, bond strength
and surface hardness tests. The study on the durability for
strengthening of concrete specimens would be used the above environment
conditions and tests to evaluate. From the testing
results, concrete specimens which wrapped CFRP sheets improve on
compressive strength, flexural strength and ductility. After four
environment test exposures, there is no big reduction in compressive and
flexural strength. All environment tests didn’t break the bond between
the CFRP reinforcement system and the concrete. |
