The department of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture was established in
1999. It is the first of its kind in Taiwan. The four-year Bachelor of Urban
Planning and Landscape Architecture program integrates the rationalism of
planning analysis and the subjective sensibilities of landscaping design into a
holistic training.
The undergraduate curriculum in urban planning and landscape architecture
centers upon creative and ecologically tuned design which combines planning,
design, landscaping, and computing into a framework with its major fields: urban
planning, landscape architecture, land development and real estate, and computer
aided design application. At the heart of the program is the sequence of design
studios: Basic Design, Environmental Planning and Design. Each core studio is
team-taught, includes carefully coordinated lecture modules that introduce
professional specializations, and focuses on a specific type of design problem
from landscape architecture to urban design. The core studios ensure that
undergraduate students benefit from the department's full range of interests and
expertise.
Graduation Requirement
Four years full-time for Bachelor of Urban Planning and Landscape
Architecture:Students must complete at least 128 credit points.
Goal
The department aims to train students in the theories and practice of
environmental planning and design. It provides students with both the design and
communication (graphic, written, verbal, and digital) abilities and leads to the
degree in the academia as well as the expertise in the profession.
